Chapter Seven
Adam
When I return home, I’m surprised to find the house quiet again, no sign of anyone outside of her security sitting patiently outside on the veranda. I give them a quick nod of acknowledgement as I step inside her bedroom, finding her sleeping peacefully in her bed, Caesar and Nero both rolled into balls at her feet sleeping just as soundly. They hear me enter and their ears immediately perk up.
“Tacco,” I speak quietly, each of them relaxing instantly. “Giu,” I continue, watching them slip from her bed and come to attention at my feet, much to my approval. “Bravi ragazzi.”
I give each of them a pat on the head before I stand upright, ushering them out of the room as my attention moves completely back to her. I pull my jacket off and toss it onto the divan, loosening my tie as I take a step closer. When I come to a stop at the edge of her bed, I concentrate on the gentle rise and fall of her chest. I take a seat on her mattress, careful not to wake her as I watch her dream, her peaceful slumber something I find myself silently coveting as I replay the phone call I’d received this afternoon in my mind.
I swallow the nerves building in the base of my throat after a moment and gently lift the soft blanket from her, gazing at her soft flesh beneath the delicate, cropped black lace camisole and panties she’s sleeping in. She shifts slightly, her arm coming to a rest across her stomach, the orange glow from the sun setting outside her window casting over her skin as she releases a low sigh. I trace the lines of her body with my eyes, my chest heavy when they move from her parted lips to the gleam coming from the ring I placed on her finger.
I lean forward on my knees, rubbing my jaw with my palm as my fingers trace the band affectionately.
“Hi, Daddy,” she whispers, her soft voice pulling me back to find her gazing up at me with a gentle smile that tugs at my chest.
“Hi, baby,” I reply, my voice just as low as I release her hand and cup her jaw, my own lips moving into a soft smile when she places a sweet kiss to my palm. “I didn’t mean to wake you.”
“That’s alright,” she sighs, nuzzling into her pillow as I begin to stroke her neck with my thumb, making her eyes flutter slightly. “You’re my favorite reason to wake up.”
“Hmm…” I hum, leaning forward to press my lips to hers. “You’re mine, too, princess.”
“I’m sorry again about earlier,” she says after a moment, making me swallow hard passed the emotion in my throat. “I was angry, and it caused me to make a rash decision. I know better,” she admits. “It’s just hard for me sometimes. I can deal with people insulting me, but I hate the way they speak of you and our relationship,”
